Poorly written regurgitation of generic fluff. A waste of money and time. I can honestly say I have learned nothing from reading it. If you are forced to read this for some class, rent it on Kindle so you give as little money as possible to the authors.

For example, Chapter 14 begins with lessons about the importance of integrity and finishes with school safety. If you are a college of education administrator, please reconsider choosing this book for your students.

This is a handbook of scales that are used in empirical marketing and consumer behaviour research. In seven chapters, this third edition mirrors the six major areas of marketing mix and consumer behaviour variables as well as a general introduction. The six areas are: (1) traits and individual difference variables; (2) values and goals; (3) involvement, information processing, and affect; (4) reactions to marketing stimuli; (5) attitudes about the performance of business firms, satisfaction and post-purchase behaviour, social agencies, and the mar- ketplace; and (6) sales, sales management, organizational behaviour, and interfirm–intrafirm issues. For each scale, the following information is provided: construct, description, and development of the scale, the samples used in development, validity, scores, source, and references and last but not least, the actual scale items and dimensions to which they belong. About the Author
William O. Bearden is the Distinguished Professor Emeritus and former Bank of America Chaired Professor of Marketing at the University of South Carolina. He is currently on the editorial review boards of JCR, JMR, JM, and JCP. He served as an Associate Editor for JCR during 1999-2002. Professor Bearden has received both the University Amoco Teaching Award, that is presented annually to one faculty member, and the University Mungo Award for Teaching Excellence. He has twice has been awarded the Moore School of Business Teacher of the Year Award and recognized as a faculty initiate in Mortar Board, ODK, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Golden Key, and received the 2004 University Educational Foundation Research Award for Professional Schools and the 2005 University Trustee Professorship Award. Professor Bearden serves as the University SEC Faculty Athletic Representative and received the first Distinguished Service Award from the Journal of Consumer Research in 2006. His research interests include consumer behavior, marketing research, pricing, and the evaluation of promotions. He was faculty co-director for the University Lilly Teaching Fellows Program from 1992-1995. Bill has published over twenty-five articles in the Journal of Marketing Research, the Journal of Marketing, and the Journal of Consumer Research, as well as having a number of other publications. He has coauthored Marketing Principles and Perspectives, 5th Edition, 2006, Irwin/McGraw-Hill, Inc.

Richard G. Netemeyer is the Ralph E. Beeton Professor of Free Enterprise in the Marketing Division and Senior Associate Dean at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA. He received his Ph.D. in Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing from the University of South Carolina in 1986. He was a member of the Marketing faculty at the E. J. Ourso School of Business at Louisiana State University from 1986 to 2001. In 2001, he joined the McIntire School of Commerce. Professor Netemeyer’s research has appeared in the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Applied Psychology, OBHDP, Marketing Science, American Journal of Psychiatry, American Journal of Public Health, and others. He is a co-author of two textbooks pertaining to measurement and psychometrics, and is a member of the editorial review boards of Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, and the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing.

Kelly L. Haws is an assistant professor of marketing at Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. She received her Ph.D. in Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing from the University of South Carolina in 2007. Professor Haws received the University Level SLATE Award for excellence in teaching at Texas A&M. Haws conducts research related to consumer behavior, with a specific focus on issues relevant to consumer welfare. Her research interests include consumer self-control, self-control strategies, optimal consumption, measurement issues, and behavioral pricing. Dr. Haws’ research has been published in the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, and the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing and presented at various conferences, including the Association for Consumer Research, the Society for Consumer Psychology, Transformative Consumer Research, and the American Marketing Association.

It's a very usefull book if you use to use marketing scales. Have around 200 different scales for a variety of marketing topics (consumer behavior, pricing, promotion, ethics, CSR and so on).
Recommend it for all marketing researchers.
It's also good because scales have already been validated.

About the Author

Joann Keyton (Ph.D., The Ohio State University, 1987) is Professor of Communication at North Carolina State University. Specializing in group and organizational communication, her current research interests are relationship issues and interdisciplinary collaboration in organizational teams, the communication processes that constitute work, organizational culture, and sexual harassment. Her research has been published in Business Communication Quarterly, Communication Theory, Group Dynamics, Human Factors, Journal of Applied Communication Research, Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies Management Communication Quarterly, Small Group Research, Southern Journal of Communication, Western Journal of Communication, and Communication Yearbook and numerous edited collections. She has published texts on group communication (Oxford) and research methods (McGraw-Hill), as well as an organizational communication case book (with Pam Shockley-Zalabak; Oxford). Professor Keyton has served on the editorial boards of Communication Monographs, Communication Studies, Journal of Applied Communication Research, Small Group Research, and Southern Communication Journal. She served as editor of the Journal of Applied Communication Research, volumes 31–33; and was the founding editor of Communication Currents, volumes 1-5. She currently serves as editor of Small Group Research.

About the Author
Frederick L. Coolidge (Ph.D.) received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Florida. He completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at Shands Teaching Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. He has been awarded three Fulbright Fellowships to India (1987, 1992, and 2005). He has also won three teaching awards at the University of Colorado (1984, 1987, and 1992), including the lifetime title of University of Colorado Presidential Teaching Scholar. In 2005, he received the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences’ Outstanding Research and Creative Works award. Dr. Coolidge conducts research in behavioral genetics and has established the strong heritability of gender identity and gender identity disorder. He also conducts research in lifespan personality assessment and has established the reliability of posthumous personality evaluations, and also applies cognitive models of thinking and language to explain evolutionary changes in the archaeological record.

Outstanding Book!

I taught several statistics courses using Statistics: A Gentle Introduction (1st ed.). I just received the 2nd edition. I have shelves of stats books and these are by far the most down to earth, easy to understand stats books I've found and are ideal for teaching. The 2nd edition builds upon the first edition and offers practice problems and sample test questions at the end of each chapter. The 2nd edition includes SPSS output and a description of the output for regression & correlation (but not for ANOVA, t-tests, chi-square). The 2nd edition includes a nice description of confidence intervals. I highly recommend this book!

Best Stats Textbook on the Market

This has to be the most "gentle" book about statistics on the market. I can actually say that I now understand the basic statistical methods! Too often, statistics books give you too much information all at once, which can be confusing to beginners. This book gradually lays it out step by step and gives clear examples of almost every possible variation. Authors of statistics texts often confuse the reader in their attempts to impress them with technical language. This book is written in language understandable to beginners and proceeds at a digestable pace. Plus, it includes brief glimpses of historical information to give the reader a broader understanding of the subject. I highly recommend this as a text for introductory statistics classes or as a refresher for anyone!

Makes Statistics Simple

This book was fantastic! It outlined the basic concepts of statistics in a way that didn't completely confuse the student. I was able to pass all my tests and actually UNDERSTAND my coursework. Kudos to the author--I HIGHLY recommend this book to the beginning statistics student.

About the Author

Cheryl Rose Tobey is a senior mathematics associate at Education Development Center (EDC) in Massachusetts. She is the project director for Formative Assessment in the Mathematics Classroom: Engaging Teachers and Students (FACETS) and a mathematics specialist for Differentiated Professional Development: Building Mathematics Knowledge for Teaching Struggling Students (DPD); both projects are funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). She also serves as a director of development for an Institute for Educational Science (IES) project, Eliciting Mathematics Misconceptions (EM2). Her work is primarily in the areas of formative assessment and professional development.

Prior to joining EDC, Tobey was the senior program director for mathematics at the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance (MMSA), where she served as the co–principal investigator of the mathematics section of the NSF-funded Curriculum Topic Study, and principal investigator and project director of two Title IIa state Mathematics and Science Partnership projects. Prior to working on these projects, Tobey was the co–principal investigator and project director for MMSA’s NSF-funded Local Systemic Change Initiative, Broadening Educational Access to Mathematics in Maine (BEAMM), and she was a fellow in Cohort 4 of the National Academy for Science and Mathematics Education Leadership. She is the coauthor of six published Corwin books, including seven books in the Uncovering Student Thinking series (2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014), two Mathematics Curriculum Topic Study resources (2006, 2012), and Mathematics Formative Assessment: 75 Practical Strategies for Linking Assessment, Instruction and Learning (2011). Before joining MMSA in 2001 to begin working with teachers, Tobey was a high school and middle school mathematics educator for ten years. She received her BS in secondary mathematics education from the University of Maine at Farmington and her MEd from City University in Seattle. She currently lives in Maine with her husband and blended family of five children.

Leslie Minton is currently a mathematics consultant for Math Matters 2, Portland, Maine. She is currently providing individualized mathematics professional development to area schools and districts PK-8, as well as, teaching Math Methods courses at the University of Southern Maine. Previously, Leslie was a Project Director for the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance, Augusta, Maine. She provided technical assistance to schools as well as designed a professional development course and diagnostic materials designed to support numeracy understanding. She is a fellow of the second cohort group of Governor’s Academy for Science and Mathematics Educators. She has taught regular and special education for grades 4-12. Leslie receive her B.S. in elementary and special education from the University of Maine at Farmington and her M.Ed in curriculum, instruction and assessment from Walden University. Currently she is completing a M.Ed program, Educational Design and Media Technology, Full Sail University.

About the Author
Merry Morash is Professor at the Michigan State University School of Criminal Justice, where she served as director from 1991 to 2001. She also is founder, Director and faculty instructor of the Michigan Victim Assistance Academy, which provides education for individuals who work with crime victims, and the Director of the Michigan Regional Community Policing Institute, and is Secretary of the Michigan DARE Advisory Board. Her primary research emphasis is on gender and crime, and current research is on domestic violence among Asian Americans and gender responsive programming for women offenders. She also has done extensive research on women in policing, and is currently engaged in research to follow up on women who participated in a study nearly a decade ago. She has recently served on the Domestic Violence Homicide Prevention Task Force, which was chaired by Michigan’s Lt. Governor, and on the Advisory Board for the Michigan Judicial Institute bench book to assist judges in their work with crime victims. Dr. Morash is a coauthor of the textbooks, Juvenile Delinquency: Concepts and Control and Co-Editor of The Move to Community Policing: Making Change Happen, and has written and published extensively on women as offenders, police, and crime victims. Additional publications focus on assessment and implementation of criminal justice policy and juvenile delinquency programming and causation.

Meda Chesney-Lind is Professor of Women’s Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Hawaii, and a B.A. Summa Cum Laude from Whitman College. She has served as Vice President of the American Society of Criminology and president of the Western Society of Criminology. Nationally recognized for her work on women and crime, her books include Girls, Delinquency and Juvenile Justice, The Female Offender: Girls, Women and Crime, Female Gangs in America, Invisible Punishment, Girls, Women and Crime, and Beyond Bad Girls: Gender Violence and Hype. She has just finished an edited collection on trends in girls’ violence, entitled Fighting for Girls: Critical Perspectives on Gender and Violence, published by SUNY Press. Dr. Chesney-Lind is a Fellow of the American Society of Criminology and the Western Society of Criminology. She has been on the Women’s Studies faculty at the University of Hawaii since 1986, and also serves on the graduate faculty in the Department of Sociology.

She received the Bruce Smith, Sr. Award "for outstanding contributions to Criminal Justice" from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences in April, 2001. She was named a fellow of the American Society of Criminology in 1996 and has also received the Herbert Block Award for service to the society and the profession from the American Society of Criminology. She has also received the Donald Cressey Award from the National Council on Crime and Delinquency for "outstanding contributions to the field of criminology," the Founders award of the Western Society of Criminology for "significant improvement of the quality of justice," and the University of Hawaii Board of Regent's Medal for "Excellence in Research."

Chesney-Lind is an outspoken advocate for girls and women, particularly those who find their way into the criminal justice system. Her work on the problem of sexism in the treatment of girls in the juvenile justice system was partially responsible for the recent national attention devoted to services to girls in that system. More recently, she has worked hard to call attention to the soaring rate of women's imprisonment and the need to vigorously seek alternatives to women's incarceration.

In Hawaii, Chesney-Lind has served as Principal Investigator of a long standing project on Hawaii's youth gang problem funded by the State of Hawaii Office of Youth Services. She has more recently also received funding to conduct research on the unique problems of girl's at risk of becoming delinquent from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Finally, she has also recently been tapped by the Hawaii Department of Public Safety to serve on an advisory panel on the problems of women in prison in Hawaii.

About the Author

Kim L. Andersons career path has been a diverse and divergent one. Prior to obtaining a graduate degree in social work from Washington University in St. Louis, she was a freelance writer, photographer and graphic artist with interests in outsider art, expressions of oppression and liberation beyond conventional artistic borders or boundaries. After many years of private practice as a licensed clinical social worker, clinical supervisor and educator, Kim received a post-graduate certificate in art psychotherapy and now is a board certified art therapist.

She is the author of Culturally Considerate School Counseling: Helping Without Bias, published by Corwin Press in 2010. Ms. Anderson presents her eclectic work at numerous local, regional and national events and venues, engaging her audience through compelling narrative, careful research, evocative experiences, and instructive storytelling.

Jaber F. Gubrium is professor and chair of sociology at the University of Missouri. He has an extensive record of research on the social organization of care in human service institutions. His publications include numerous books and articles on aging, family, the life course, medicalization, and representational practice in therapeutic context.

James A. Holstein is professor of sociology in the Department of Social and Cultural Sciences at Marquette University. His research and writing projects have addressed social problems, deviance and social control, mental health and illness, family, and the self, all approached from an ethnomethodologically- informed, constructionist perspective.

Amir B. Marvasti is Associate Professor of Sociology at Pennsylvania State University, Altoona. His research focuses on the social construction of deviant identities in everyday life. He is the author of Being Homeless: Textual and Narrative Constructions (Lexington Books 2003), Qualitative Research in Sociology (Sage 2003), Middle Eastern Lives in America (with Karyn McKinney, Rowman and Littlefield 2004), and Doing Qualitative Research: A Comprehensive Guide (with David Silverman, Sage 2008). His articles have been published in the Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, Qualitative Inquiry, Symbolic Interaction, and Critical Sociology.

Karyn D. McKinney is an associate professor of sociology and women’s studies at Pennsylvania State University, Altoona. Her research has focused on the role of race and racism in identity and experience. Her publications include Being White: Stories of Race and Racism (Routledge, 2005), Middle Eastern Lives in America (with Amir Marvasti, Rowman and Littlefield, 2004) and The Many Costs of Racism (with Joe Feagin, Rowman and Littlefield, 2003).
