Review
"The authors have provided a useful tool that will serve as a starting point in the school improvement journey. The Multi-Educational Dimension approach reinforces the concept of system and school renewal based on the whole child." (Sonia Sahota, Principal 2011-01-31)
"Improving academic outcomes requires far more than focusing exclusively on the curriculum. The book, Multi-Dimensional Education represents a welcomed approach to assisting schools and all their stakeholders in addressing the 4C’s of climate, curriculum, character and the community of a school. In an evidence-driven era, gathering comprehensive data on the 4C's will enable schools to meet their academic goals and to engage in a holistic approach to education. The benefit of this book is that it provides educators and policy makers with a clear strategy to help students to be both smart and good human beings."
"Multi-Dimensional Education is an invaluable resource to help educators consider seven dimensions that contribute to school success and then interconnect them with the four C's - curriculum, community, climate, and character to create a data system that can make a real difference in a school. The authors' humorous writing style, combined with real-life stories, rubrics, and steps at the end of each chapter make this book a practical guide to help educators understand and use data to achieve excellence. Our students deserve no less!" (Jan Urbanski, Director 2011-01-31)
"The authors have provided solid foundational information and theoretical explanations for the model. The data collection instruments provided in the appendices are practical and can be used at a variety of levels and explained to stakeholders in the schooling experience." (Marie Peine, Director 2011-01-31)
"Multi-Dimensional Education offers fantastic recommendations and usable survey instruments for assessing a school's current culture. It also has practical guidance for moving a school forward to meet NCLB requirements. I wish I had access to this book's insights when I began reform efforts at my school. It would have helped us avoid some pitfalls by giving data points for the staff to see before changes were implemented." (Mathew Batnett, Principal 2011-01-31)
"Multi-Dimensional Education addresses the use of data in a holistic fashion and does not confine data collection and usage to a single dimension (test scores). Rather than a piecemeal approach it treats data usage as a matter of scale - a systemic approach. This permits all stakeholders to acquire more comprehensive insight into the multiple dimensions that impact school effectiveness and student achievement - school climate, educational attitudes, faculty fidelity, community engagement, curriculum expectations, developmental perspective and leadership."
(Ron Oliver, Professor 2011-01-31)"The authors have developed a revolutionary system that empowers school districts to make informed decisions and accurate predictions, and control their future. This is an exciting new data system that provides us with the tools to develop a new lens for viewing what really needs to be focused on to make long-lasting positive changes for our students, schools, parents, and community." (Scott Hall, Teacher 2011-01-31)
"This book provides an intelligent system for capturing more information and knowledge in order to improve decision-making for teachers, principals, and superintendents. It represents a breakthrough in information acquisition and analysis - one that is likely to provide comparative advantage for individual classrooms, schools, and school districts. A fitting text for any coursework on organizational leadership or assessment." (Steven Loomis, Professor 2011-01-31)
"The Multi-Dimensional Education approach offers a robust picture of data which illuminates the complex system in which we work. It takes into account a myriad of variables, and it provides meaningful data that can contribute to students' success. Relying solely on summative data gathered for federal and state requirements does not provide the rich information necessary to support student learning. The 4C’s and 7 Dimensions offer a framework for data analysis and comprehensive support for students."
(Sheri McDonald, Administrator, Specialized Instruction 2011-02-02)"The challenges facing educators today are immense and the pressure to 'perform' is clearly evident. This book provides a fresh and compelling argument to look far beyond test score performance when measuring success in our schools. The systemic model described in this book will help educators comprehensively assess, improve, and achieve in their schools." (Kurt Suhr, Director of Elementary Education 2011-02-08)

Data That Matters
By Emily Markussen Sorsher
No Child Left Behind has forced those of us in education to become "data driven". Unfortunately, in addition to a lack of training in data analysis, most teachers only have access to data on test scores. These scores become the sole data upon which their success is judged. Multi-Dimensional Education gives teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders NEW OPTIONS. Teachers are encouraged to look at data involving motivation, school climate, leadership potential, and more. They are also told to look beyond district-generated numbers, and instead reach out to parents, other staff members, and most importantly, students. By considering the whole school and the whole child, you arrive at a more complete picture of each school's strengths and challenges. No rational person would argue that students leave behind all the other facets of their life when they hit the classroom. This book forces teachers to look deeper than pass or fail, to consider qualitative and quantitative data, and to constantly keep a balanced view of their school in mind. I believe this book will decrease the stress level of any educator who implements it with fidelity!

Education That Makes Sense
By Teresa Wilkerson
Have you ever thought that America's educational system has lost sight of its true purpose? Whether you are an educational leader, policy maker, teacher, parent, or community member, this book is must read. The authors use real school cases and a common-sense data approach to shed new light on measuring educational success. In an era of accountability, this book provides insight into why the "one test score" measure fails to adequately create the holistic picture needed to truly tell the story of what is happening inside our schools. The authors articulate a strong argument for reframing the way we view schools. The information presented in the book offers a great starting point for open, honest, and needed dialogue. Using a multiple assessment framework, a collaborative culture, and an intentional direction, the authors offer us all a way to think, plan, and act effectively as we seek to improve the educational experience for all.

Great book for leading change.
By Lynette M. Thompson
What a great book!! The authors have done an excellent job connecting their work with the real world. It rings true to what is actually happening in schools with regards to leadership and change. I have been really impressed with the authors point of view and their ability to express their opinions in a very "common sense" approach. I think this would be an excellent book for a book study with our administrative team and then with site principals. I am even considering doing it with my school pyschologists. They have to become part of the big picture or we will eventually end up going to school psychometrist and then just hire more curriculum specialist and interventionist. This would actually be sad when our psychologists have a lot to bring to the table, but they are going to have to become part of hte bigger picture. I hope this book with contintue to give me insight on how I can lead this group through change. It has been a more difficult task than it was leading teachers through change.
The author's work also connects well with two other books, "It's Not Us Against Them" by Raymond McNulty and Daggett's work with Common Core. The Multi-Dimensional Education ties it all together. It will ensure that a school is covering all needed facets in making change through data-driven decision making. Excellent book and an easy read. I would highly recommend this book to anyone in a leadership role.
