This is a must read for any discipline...
By 1HotMamma
America as a classless nation? No way. The proof is here. Everyone, regardless of discipline should read this. I used it for a sociology course, but I would have read it cover to cover even without it being course material. It is all very, very interesting, well supported and documented.

Very dated
By Heather
I assigned this book (in part because I assumed the new edition would be "new") in a sociology course on Class, Stratification and Power and have been unpleasantly surprised at how dated most of the material is. For example, in chapter 5, the section on how sex-role socialization varies by class references only studies from 1969, 1977 and 1976. Similarly, the section on how marriage varies by class uses only studies from 1976 and 1975. Yikes!
A few of the chapters sprinkle in a few newer studies (and there are some graphs that do address the increasing inequality of the last decade) but it is clear that this is a 20+ year old textbook that the author keeps releasing new editions of with only the most minimal "updating".
I definitely won't be using it next time I teach this course.

This is a good book that is updated about every year I think
By PWN3D
This is a good book that is updated about every year I think. Much of sociology relies on a select few studies that have not since been replicated. Sociology is unique because it does not age as quickly as other sciences, so its studies last much longer. Great resource on raw data interpretation with many included graphs and charts. Get this edition if you're looking for a very cost-effective source on the subject.
